The Jocose Sallow, gosh I wish I could tell you an ironically, funny story to how this little moth became known as the joker (other than jocosa meaning joking), but I can’t actually find much information about this spectacularly colored individual. They are a little noctuid moth and feed primarily on pine. They time their egg laying so that the hatch happens at the same time buds are emerging on the pine.

All these years studying insects and you know what, I still can’t get over how furry moths appear and the fact that those are all just individual scales.
