Wedding Photography | A Change-The-World Kind Of Love, Seneca Lake NY
In 2010, in what I am sure was a not-so-quiet summer camp, a boy and a girl met. Alicia was the health officer and Kevin was the soccer coach and one-on-one aid for a wonderful deaf man with Down Syndrome. You can imagine how their relationship bloomed from there. Kevin is studying American sign language interpreting at RIT and Alicia works at Corning Inc. as a reliability lab test technician. Last June they took a trip to Paris and that’s when it happened…
…at night, beneath the Eiffel Tower, with all of the romantic cliche elements included (according to Alicia). She said it was beautiful and I don’t doubt it. You spend two minutes with these two and you can just tell that they are very compassionate, selfless people. When she was describing themselves she said that they loved spending time with people, eating ice cream at every summer time stand they pass, and that they really want to change the world. You could tell how thoughtful of other people they were even in their own wedding…everything planned was with the guest in mind (just wait until you see the cookie bar!).
Kevin and Alicia were wed at the beautiful Fitch Estate on the southern end of Seneca Lake in the town of Valois, NY. The property is lake front with two docks, and boasts a Victorian mansion and cottage. The boys stayed in the cottage to get ready, and the girls in the mansion (naturally 🙂 ).
I love it when people write their own vows, I think the words hold so much more meaning and power. Kevin and Alicia wrote their own and they did not disappoint my love affair with personalized vows. They opted for a private first look moment with each other before the ceremony and managed to keep their friends and family at bay, despite the crowd’s best pleading efforts. Although, I don’t think it would have mattered if all of Yankee Stadium was there because they were so overcome with emotion and tuned in to each other that I don’t even think they noticed the two cameras snapping away.
The flower girl was sooooo stinkin’ cute! She was so excited for their wedding day, she told me she couldn’t wait to put on her Belle dress (from Beauty and the Beast) and that she loved all the Disney princesses. Except for Snow White, because her dress was kind of boring. She was very meticulous with her role as flower girl, even making sure to empty out the basket of petals onto Alicia’s feet when Alicia joined Kevin.
One of the bridesmaids and groomsmen performed the song At Last for their first dance and they did such an awesome job (it was actually hard not to sing along with her beautiful voice). And the cookie bar. Oh the cookie bar. If it weren’t for the camera in my hand I think I would have been permanently stationed there in a sugar coma. It looked like heaven.
After cake and cookies, the best man and maid of honor squared off against the groom and bride in a hardcore badminton match…with personalized jerseys to boot.
If their people-centric wedding is any indication, I have no doubt that theirs is a change-the-world kind of love. Congrats to you, Alicia and Kevin 🙂
