That This Heart of Mine Embraces

“I’ll be seeing you

In all the old familiar places

That this heart of mine embraces

All day and through

I’ll find you in the morning sun

And when the night is new

I’ll be looking at the moon

But I’ll be seeing you”

Billie Holliday, I’ll Be Seeing You

When the vibrant summer greens release their grip ever so slightly and the fern fronds begin to droop and brown and a muted saturation takes over the landscape and the first hint that fall has enter the scene.

Yes, dear Jacob, I’ll be looking at the onslaught of autumn, but I’ll be seeing you. In all the old familiar places that this heart of mine embraces, all day and through, I’ll be seeing you.

I had struggled to find the words to write to Jake for his 1st birthday, words I write in journals for both the kids, but they finally have come to me, through my pen and onto pages I hope he cherishes forever. That section above is how I decided to start his birthday letter.

Autumn, I embrace you with open arms, old friend.
