It’s how I know it’s Spring. Their chorusing lets the whole eastern US know it has arrived. And of course I am referring to the Spring Peeper.

Their Latin name, Pseudacris crucifer, (crusifer meaning cross-bearer) comes from the dark cross marking on their back.

I had been hearing them for a couple weeks now, but when I would go into the swamp in search of them I could never find them. It’s just another one of those things you have to let happen naturally, because every year they eventually wander up to around the house and I get my chance to photograph them. And every year I have to be reminded that I can’t go to them, they have to come to me.

They only ring in at about an inch long and I just so happened to catch a glimpse of this one on my way down the driveway to the mailbox. Wildlife Photographer

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for the little wild things around you this weekend 🙂
