Landscape Photography | On Falling (Salmon River Falls)
We decided to hike down to the bottom of the Salmon River Falls a week ago. Just so happened, the same time we were making our decent, so were emergency crews. A group of teenagers had been down there and one of them decided to take a dive. His friends say they were lucky that 3 Army medics were also there enjoying the falls and were able to provide first response care while they waited for emergency crews. Initially a local fire department was going to put him on a gurney and hike him back up out of the steep gorge. They decided to air lift him out instead. What a sight that was, to see that helicopter come up the river bed and land on a small patch of river rock, with the falls as the back drop. Hopefully that will be the only accident there this year and people will heed the warnings of the signs around the falls and down in the gorge.
You won’t ever catch me diving off rocks/cliffs…I prefer my feet on solid ground. Unfortunately (or fortunately) there are no dare-devilish bones in my body.
