If The Seas Catch Fire
“Trust your heart if the seas catch fire, live by love though the stars walk backward.”
I was very much looking forward to our annual trip to the Cape for Thanksgiving and one of the things on my ‘hope to do’ list was catch a spectacularly lit sunset. I was hoping for vibrantly beautiful colors.
That didn’t happen.
In fact, I never caught even one sunset while there. But I did make make solo trips to the beach pre-dawn twice. The storms that affected East coast holiday travel provided a beautiful moody sky Thanksgiving morning. To stand alone on the edge of the sea, with no other soul around, witnessing her mood as she awakens, as if she bares her heart to only me. These are moments I am thankful for. Moments I live for. Addicted to.
I am a naturally anxious person and spend way too much time lost in thought and worry. A constant battlefield in my mind. To rise with the sun and sea, to stand there on the edge, all the noise that clutters my mind fades and I am reminded to trust and to love.
Try not to suffer for the troubles that may never come.
It goes without saying I am thankful for the time spent with family. But I am equally thankful for those quiet moments I find myself alone, intimately experiencing wild places.
Even when it didn’t go according to my plan.
