Farm Fresh Vows | Alexa and Peter Marry in Auburn NY
Peter and Alexa met at NYU. They lived in Queens as roommates and friends. They dated briefly, and while Peter was head-over-heels, Alexa was not so convinced. Five years later Peter got his second chance and this time he struck a chord with Alexa. The rest, according to him, is history. A beautiful history, I imagine, as they just welcomed a handsome little son into the world and watching these two envelope him in love all day was pure magic.
No two weddings are ever alike. And this wedding was quite the opposite of a typical wedding:
- On a working farm.
- Full out downpour of rain as friends and family arrived, turning the location into a giant mud pit.
- Bride, groom and guests barefoot reveling in the mud and embracing the freedom of spirit and laughter.
- A genuine BBQ, compliments of a pig raised and roasted by a cousin of the father of the bride.
The list could go on with all the ways this wedding was not your typical wedding, but the most striking way in which it stood high above your average wedding was in the vows exchanged. Their vows were so personal, so touching, so very beautiful and deeply human.
Peter and Alexa’s beloved beagle, Abby, was an ever present fixture to the day. She greeted guests, played with kids, walked her most favorite humans down the aisle during the ceremony, joined them for their first dance…and tried with all her might to get ahold of some of that sweet smelling BBQ.
Donny and Cheryl Wayne, cousins of Alexa’s father, raised and roasted the pig used to feed the guests at the wedding and did such an amazing job preparing it and serving everyone. Of course, Abby was their dutiful sous chef 😉
Wolffy’s Grill & Marina catered hors d’oeuvres and all sorts of yummies that folks kept going back and back again for more.
The Produce Place made strawberry, rhubarb, and pecan pies from scratch for the wedding, and man, were they a hit.
DJ D.F.R., out of Union Springs NY, provided the dance music and was a huge hit with all the kids.
Alexa and Peter,
Wow. I was so impressed by you guys (and the amazing folks who surrounded you on your wedding day). When I showed up as the rains had just finished and the farm was of pure mud and puddles, I was worried.
But then I saw you guys, and I will never forget it. You guys both had giant smiles on your faces. Had that been me on my wedding day, I might have lost it. You both are so inspiring and so impressive in your delightful spirits that you had me convinced that you actually *planned* to have muddy downpours and found nothing but pure joy in being able to splash around in your bare feet in the refreshed earth on such a happy day in your life.
“A little mud never hurt anyone”, I overheard one of your guests explaining to her young daughter. That brought such a smile to my face. Watching both you and your guests kick off their shoes and truly enjoy your wedding was really amazing and not something I see often at all as a wedding photographer.
You guys are so chill, so carefree, and so obviously going to be the coolest parents to your new son. He’s going to have a beautiful life, surrounded by love, and taught that it is more than ok to get a little muddy and embrace all sorts of weather life brings in. As was evidenced by the day your lives officially solidified as one.
