Delicate Wishes

They just came out of nowhere.

I was enjoying the onset of spring so much so that I was oblivious to the fact that they quickly and swiftly had my vegetable garden surrounded. An army, I am sure, a million fold. I’ve never had dandelions in this area of my property so when I made my way out to check on my vegetables that morning I was just in shock.

And a bit of awe.DSC_5935EDIT FBAs I stood there looking at all those dandelions that had gone to seed, all those evil-yet-delicately-beautiful dandelions, I wished that there was some magical way to prevent the inevitable of all the masses floating ever-so-delicately onto my vegetable beds.

“If there’s a single lesson that life teaches us, it’s that wishing doesn’t make it so. ”  Lev Grossman

What is it about dandelions that invokes the casting of wishes when we gently blow on them and parachute their seeds into the world?

After briefly poking around the internet, I actually couldn’t find that great of an answer as to why we wish upon dandelions and where that originated from.

There’s no point having wishes if you don’t at least try to do them” Sally Nicholls

DSC_6009EDIT FBBut there is no shortage of advice out there when it comes to making wishes:

My dear, if I could wish upon you one thing it would be this:

May you live every day of your life.

May you not dwell in the past. Whatever the past was, it’s gone. Whether the past was dastardly awful or outrageously wonderful, it is gone. Leave it behind. May you not dwell in the future. Thinking of that which you shall do. Because, before you realize it, you shan’t. The problem with dwelling in the future is that it’s perfect. Terribly so! In the future you are happy, beautiful, in love, famous, rich, and successful…somehow. And it is this somehow that will ruin you… May you actually live! Embrace the day at hand. Live in the now. Because it is eternal and unbound. The now doesn’t recognize yesterdays’s failures, or tomorrow’s successes. And thus it is truly unchained. And an unchained mind flies. Live in the now, and you shall spout wings.” Jonathan Swift

My dear friends, happy Friday and may you have an enjoyable, worry-free weekend ahead of you.
