A Portrait of Childhood

“Snow was falling,
so much like stars
filling the dark trees
that one could easily imagine
its reason for being was nothing more
than prettiness.”

Mary Oliver

These snow-kissed sisters are neighbors of mine and asked for photos with each other. I love that it was important to them and hope they have these moments, dancing between snowflakes together, for the rest of their lives.

I hope these memories and photographs are kept safely tucked away in boxes, so that as life slowly takes strips away the magic and wonder of childhood from them, they are able to revisit these moments through the years and hold the pictures between their fingers.
